This is an exciting year for the continuing education (CE) department at HawkGrips! All of our CE courses have been given a much-needed facelift, plus we now offer multi-level certifications. If you’ve attended any of our courses in the past year or two, you might be wondering why we enacted such sweeping changes.

CE courses continuing education HawkGrips certification level I level II Advanced IASTM

The HawkGrips Level II: Advanced IASTM educational course focuses on advanced strokes and integrating instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization with patient movement.

The answer is although our courses and instructors were great, a lot of new research has come out in the past two years that wasn’t being sufficiently covered because the courses were written in late 2014. To ensure we’re providing course attendees with the most current information possible, HawkGrips is committed to updating our courses at least every two years to include all the latest research!

This year has also seen the launch of our multi-level certifications. We recognized that physical therapy professionals, occupational therapy professionals, athletic trainers, chiropractors, and massage therapists don’t necessarily want to give up a full weekend to take CE courses. So we now limit our courses to one day each and have added a certification associated with each course.

The old “Core Principles of IASTM” course has evolved into “Level I: IASTM Fundamentals,” with an associated “cert. HGP-I” (certified HawkGrips Practitioner Level I) after passing a post-course exam. Our other former course, “Advanced Principles of IASTM,” was an entry-level offering that actually included a lot of repetitive material from the Core Principles course, because it aimed to both introduce IASTM and build on IASTM foundations at the same time.

Current and Convenient

Much of the feedback we received from previous course attendees indicated this was a very long day-and-a-half course! So we decided to cut out the foundational IASTM component and simply create a “Level II: Advanced IASTM” course that focuses on advanced IASTM strokes and IASTM with patient movement. For those of you who took our previous “Advanced Principles of IASTM” course and enjoyed the nerve-bed application, don’t worry! In 2018, we’ll launch a Level III course including nerve and neural application (release date TBD).

In order to take our new Level II course, prospective attendees must first complete any HawkGrips course or any competitive course of at least eight hours in duration (such as Graston Technique). Any course shorter than this unfortunately wouldn’t provide practitioners with a knowledge base sufficient enough to dive into the techniques taught in the “Level II: Advanced IASTM” course. Similar to the new Level I course, our new Level II course yields a “cert. HGP-II” (certified HawkGrips Practitioner Level II) after passing the 60-question post-course exam.

At HawkGrips, we endeavor to have all of our courses pre-approved by the appropriate governing boards for all attendees to claim continuing education units. Whether you’re an athletic trainer, chiropractor, massage therapist, physical therapist, physical therapist assistant, occupational therapist, and/or occupational therapy assistant, we do our best to offer CEUs to you!* Please email us at or check with your licensing board to ensure that you can claim CEUs.
